Brief Description:  Canopy Stop Installation

Installed the canopy stop on the right-side rail. The canopy stop is designed to enable the pilot (front seat) to stop the canopy for opening all the way so it can be easily reached in preparation for run-up and take-off. Got to have the ability to taxi with the canopy partially opened!

The instructions that came with the stop say to grind down or otherwise remove a portion of the steel canopy frame so the canopy frame rest on top of the stop. I did not like attempting to grind the steel frame at this point, nor did I like permanently modifying the frame for an ‘optional’ part.

Instead, I opened the existing hole in the stop so the canopy frame slides inside. I had to open up the bolt hole a bit in the stop, but this was not an issue since the washer head screw that holds the canopy roller goes through a steel angle. Placed tape on the rail to mark where to drill the hole for the stop pin, then carefully drilled this mark so the stop pin goes smoothly into the hole. Now I can open the canopy and have it stop ~ 1/2 way, and easily pull the canopy forward.
