Brief Description:  HS and VS Fairings

Fitted the VS top tip fairing, created a balsa end cap which sits inside the fairing which will later be covered in epoxy and glass.

Started work to fit and install the HS tip fairings. These require trimming and filling the end caps. Trimmed a piece of balsa wood to use as an insert for the fairing to hold the fairing in place against the upper and lower HS skin to locate the holes. The HS has no pre-drilled holes for these fairings. I did not find a call out in the plans for the hole locations, so I used the outboard HS rib hole location adjacent for spacing the four holes for the blind rivets.

Drilled the holes in the HS skin, then used the balsa wedge to fit the fairing against the skin, then match drilled the skin and fairings. Removed the fairings, countersunk the fairings, and dimpled the skin. Cut a piece of balsa wood to act as a stop for the rear cap of the fairings, the plan is to use epoxy and fiberglass cloth to enclose the rear of the fairings.

The VS / HS intersection fairing, both sides in common with the HS required adjustment from the leading edge for about 6”. Sanded and removed the previous 'adjustment' for the old HS and VS, then installed flush against the HS and VS. Used several small strips of fiberglass cloth and epoxy to fill the new gaps in the fairing.
