So, while removing the empennage for some reason I can't remember at this writing... I found something that shocked me, because I had not noticed this before now. One of the four #19 holes in the forward HS for attaching to the aft fuse deck was partially mis-drilled. It looks like the attempted hole was cleaned up a bit.
This is not good. I took pics and sent to Van's, the response was something like "it looks to be cleaned up and should not be a problem, but the question is, what else did the previous builder do to the HS you can't see."
Ordered new HS and VS parts. Why VS, because besides the HS, it's the only structure that I have not replaced.
Decided to make a drill guide for the four #19 holes used to attach the HS to the aft fuse deck. The thought of attempting to match drill from inside the tail cone of the fuse to the new HS is daunting.
