Brief Description: Wing Tip Lighting for Landing/Nav - Right
I was not at all happy with mounting the Landing/Strobe light on the provided metal bracket attached to the aft side of the fiberglass wing tip, nor attaching the Nav/Position light directly to the fiberglass wing tip. I decided to make mounting plates that attach screws to platenuts which are riveted to the fiberglass wing tip using flush rivets.
The Landing/Strobe light is mounted via two machine screws attaching directly to the aft side of the mounting plate, the mounting plate attached to the fiberglass tip. The Nav/Position light is attached to the vendor supplied bracket. The bracket is riveted to the mounting plate, the mounting plate attached to the fiberglass tip via platenuts and machine screws.
The plexi wing tip lens is attached by two #6 machine screws and tinnerman washers to plate nuts. The plat nuts are riveted to the fiberglass tip via blind rivets. This way, I can remove the plexi lens to work on the lighting and not remove the wing tip.
