Brief Description: Cowling - Oil Door Installation Part 2
In testing the opening of the oil door, realized there is a small gap between the hinge side of the oil door, and the cowl. I want to eliminate the gap, so I decided to create a plate from thin gauge aluminum to act as a surface for filling the gap with a mixture of microballoons and epoxy.
Measured, cut, and filed smooth the aluminum plate. The plate will be riveted to the cowl on both sides of the hinge, and cover the gap between the oil door and the cowl. Matched drill the plate and cowl #40, spaced the rivets using the same distance as the hinge.
Removed the plate, deburred, and countersunk the two rivet holes for AN426-3 rivets. Removing the door allowed for easy access to squeeze the rivets attaching the plate to the cowl.
