Brief Description:  Cowling - Oil Door Installation

I have been saving the oil door for the cowl for years, I knew eventually I'd get around to installing the door on the upper cowl. Why not today, since I am trying to get the plane ready for prime and paint. I took the cut-out part of the upper cowl for the door opening, centered it into the opening, holding it in place using tape from below. I then mixed up a small amount of epoxy, and painted the top of the cutout, then placed the oil door on the cutout, then taped into place to allow the epoxy to set.

Matched drilled the outer and inner door together, then countersunk the holes for AN426-3 rivets. Also matched drilled the four holes from the hinge to the door, and upper cowl.

Removed the door assembly and riveted the inner and outer door together, and the hinge in place. Though I had the door taped in place when epoxied, the hinge side was high. I used a bit of weight to hold the upper door in place flush with the cowl, and used the heat gun to warm up the door enough so that it sits flush with the upper cowl.
