Brief Description:  Wing Light Wiring

Started with the wing wiring for lights. I have Aeroleds Sunray Plus for the Land and Recognition lights, and Sunray Plus for the Nav and Strobe lights. Aeroleds calls for AWG 20 3 wire shielded. This stuff is not so easy to find, 18 and 22 are readily available, but 20 was a special order.

This was also the first time I worked with Molex connectors. Crimping a Molex pins is a bit of a mess using the open barrel tool that I have for the job. Watch the requisite video from Steinair on crimping Molex pins, them got to work. Given the pin size, it is preferred to clip the ends of the shield crimp just a bit so it fits better. So, to crimp, strip about 1/8 inch of the shield, then insert into the pin while the pin is held in the crimper, carefully holding the pin in place, crimp the wire. Flip over the crimper and insert the pin into the open barrel to crimp the remaining pin on to the shield.

The operation bends the pin just a bi, must be straighten out a bit. The pins are easy to insert into the Molex connector, but if you must remove a pin, it is no good, has to be cut off, and the operation repeated... ask me how I know.
