Brief Description:  FAB Fabbing

Since the cowl is fitted, moving on the fitting the filtered air box (a.k.a. FAB). The FAB consists of a fiberglass box, mount plate and top. Plans call for the installation of a carb heat door, but since I have fuel injection, that's one step (series of steps) I can omit.

The FAB top required fluting to make flat. The top has 6 nut plates and filter retainer clips to ensure the filter is tightly sandwiched between the mount plate and the bottom of the box. The mount plate has the 6 pre drilled holes, but the alignment to the front of the aircraft needs to be determined.

Using the center mark on the spinner bulkhead from aligning the cowl, located the center line of the spinner plate and aligned the center of the FAB to this line. Marked each of the 6 holes for match driller. The fuel servo is not centered on the aircraft (the engine is not on center line of the aircraft) ... This was a bit of a guess.

Match drilled and Clecoed the FAB mount plate, top and box with the filter to test alignment with the bottom cowl air induction scoop.
