Brief Description:  Baggage Door # 3 ?

After completing the majority of the forward top skin riveting, decided to see if I wanted to proceed with riveting the baggage door hinge in place. Fitted the door again, and, well, there's still a slight rise in the door on the aft side in the main part of the curve. This is essentially the same issue I had with the first door. This door is better, and I guess I can live with it, I have seen many RV8s with the same characteristic relative to the baggage door skin fitting flush with the top fuse skin.

Decided that there's no better time than now to attempt a third door, this time I will do whatever it takes to get the aft rib correct prior to, actually riveting the door skin. I had this sorted with the second door, but in the process of finishing the top and bottom rivets for the door, the door is off the fuse, not strapped in place, the door gets a bit twisted and no longer fits quite as well.

I figure if the aft rib is nearly perfect before riveting, it should not want to twist the door when riveting the top and bottom. So, off to build a custom aft rib. Using Styrofoam, I traced the aft door opening arc. Cut the Styrofoam and laid the aft rib in place, identifying the problem. Cut the aft rib in two places, and aligned with the Styrofoam tracing. Made a doubler place for the inside of the rib, Using shims, held the doubler plate in place and taped the rib back to the Styrofoam matching the tracing. Drilled #40 holes to secure the doubler plate to the rib ...
