Brief Description:  Power up Avionics for First Time

Ok, this was a BIG day, on the same order as hanging the engine, but it took a LOT longer to get ready for this... Today I turned on the power for the avionics for the first time, after many months of reading Garmin installation documents, Dynon, etc. and making decision after decision about how I wanted this to work.

I was surprised the Odyssey battery after all this time still reads 12.44 volts, I installed after making sure all the circuit breakers were out. I have a always powered bus for the IBBS trickle charge and the two USB adapters. Tested this first, no power! Tested at the bus, no power. OK, I've something wrong here, but this is isolated from the main switch bus, so proceded.

Enable the switch to the avionics bus, and tested positive for power. Time to start testing avionics. Begin with flight control stuff (elevator trim, flap motor). Elevator trim worked perfectly, flap motor was backward operation as the Flap Position System did not work. Easily corrected, and then worked as required.

Next tested the audio panel and COM 1 radio, powered and receiving ATIS.
Next was the EFIS and related equipment, so powered up the ADHAR, EIS, GDU, and other stuff - one at a time of course.

Everything powered up and no pops or smoke. Whew !! Fantastic !! It actually works !!

During configuration and testing, I could not enter a frequency into the COM 2 radio using the GDU. Turned out it was a software issue, I booted up with 2.4, and Garmin had already released 3.9. After the software update, COM 2 worked perfectly.

I have to say Garmin support (g3xpert@garmin.com) was fantastic. I was troubleshooting on a weekend and they responded to all emails within minutes and I was able to get the issue resolve quickly.
