Brief Description:  Trailing Edge Trimming

With the wing tips trimmed to equal lengths it was on to the trailing edges. I made a tracing of the LH wing tip end of the wing onto some thin ply scrap. I then cut the pattern out on the band saw. With the shape cut out I held it up to the RH wing tip and noted the length of the upper and lower trailing edges compared to the LH trailing edges. My goal was to get all the chord lengths the same and the trailing edges straight and equal removing the minimum of material. The G1 manual has this trimming done right as wing construction is started. The GII books have you sand the upper TE equal to the lowers by hanging a plumb bob over the top skin. Trimming is done when the upper and lower TE are in line with the plumb line. In my case the RH uppers were long accross the span (good). The LE had the upper TE short near the tip. To remedy I had to remove a little of the lower TE until the top and bottom TE were equal. I used a ten foot 3 inch square alum extrution as a sanding block. I used this block to straighten all the edges. I did the LH upper and lower TE first.
