Brief Description:  Wing Tip Rib Fabrication

The G1 construction manuals do not show a tip rib in the wing. Dace Kirk suggested that I add one. I agreed that the G1 method leaves a lot of tip span with no ribs so I decided to follow his advice. I created a template for the rib using two pieces of 1/8 inch masonite. I replicated the wing skin profiles using a washer run along the skin with a Sharpie pen in the inner hole. This makes a nice tracing (see pic 1). After both wing skins had been traced I cut the templates on my bandsaw. The templates were then placed in position and hot melt glued together. The template was used to mark the 1/2 inch foam for the ribs. The ribs were cut, fit, sealed with Q-cell, then glued into position using a thich Q-cell mixture. A fillet of Q-cell was made around the perimeter of the rib to ready it for the laminates to follow.
