Brief Description:  Wing Walk Reinforcement

I am going to reinforce the upper wing skins in the wing walk areas. This mod is covered in multiple newsletters, with different methods suggested. I am going to replace the existing wing skin foam core (about 5 lbs per cu ft) with 18 lb density foam. A will also add two plys to the outer skin after removing the foam core, one uni ply and one bid. Today a built some exterior fixturing to support the wing skin airfoil shape while the core is replaced and the additional plys added. The additional laminating would tend to shrink and distort the shape unless supported in some manor during cure. I cut two exo-ribs from 3/4 inch press board scraps I had laying around. I used bondo to attach the ribs to the upper skin. I also added some scraps to tie the ribs together.

I also removed the half forks to drill and tap for the gear door number two attachment screws. I forgot that the half forks are teh only thing holding the bottom plugs into the oleos. When I removed the first half forks the plug blew out the bottom and sprayed hydraulic fluid everywhere! I let the pressure out of the other one prior to removing the half fork!
