After letting the paint on the seat dry over night, I installed it on the plane and cut some foam for cushions.
This foam is a 1" thick closed-cell polyurethane that I got for free from an industrial supply house. It was a remnant, and they had been cutting off pieces to use for packing. I have a friend who works there and asked if I had any use for it. You know what I said. It's not "aircraft-approved" - but who cares - this is experimental.
I trimmed the foam to fit the seat frame. I'll put some canvas or something on it later. I don't plan on having anything fancy - but I do want it to be light so I think this is the best way.
Of course, since this is the first time I will have a seat in the plane - I had to get in there and make airplane sounds. This is a very comfortable seat! I don't see a need for any fancy upholstery and springs etc. The Ceconite on a frame, and this foam cushion are a great seating solution for an airplane. I guess some temperfoam may be slightly better - but I doubt it.
