Jesus!!!,,,, I'm installing the mid console on the right, fitted clecoed deburred and the aluminum angle is riveted to the fuse. Install the mid cabin vertical cover, I looked and relooked at the instructions (there are none, just says install refer to plans) I looked and relooked at the plans.. the drawing shows that the cover is to but up against the spar center section and you start drilling all those holes vertically to "pop rivet" later. Started drilling the first hole,, and it seems to be taking way too long..... crap I'm drilling into the spar.!..... stopped and looked and measured, I'm into the spar material by 1/8",,,, panic has set in, I don't want to redo the center section of this plane. I called Steve my machinest pro.. and he tells me not to worry, I sent a question to Vans airforce and I got a million opinions,, most were "panic" but call Vans first. I called Vans, and I've gotten a written advice from their "senior" engineer, "After careful consideration by Ken Kruger (head engineering Guru) the decision is to leave it alone and move on. I won't go into all the edge distance and strength discussion. He did suggest that you put a little primer in the hole."Needless to say I'm very happy....serious potential gotcha here... Basically I called it a day after this booboo,, I waited several hours for Vans to get back to me (they are awesome for customer service) and I really couldn't concentrate till this was taken care of.
