Brief Description: Build right gear leg wheel pant fairing
I am going to install wheel pant fairings differently from the plans. A friend of mine has done several planes this way and it seems to be a good option to construct a strong fairing to wheel pant juncture.
First I covered the wheel pant with clear tape to act as a release agent. Then I applied clay to form the shape of the fairing as per Van's plans. The wheel pant fairing will be bonded to the gear fairing. Once I finish laying up the fiberglass, the screws to hold the wheel pant to the aluminum structure underneath will pass through the wheel pant fairing which is bonded to the gear fairing. This makes for a very sturdy wheel pant for operating off of grass strips.
This process took quite a bit of time to make sure that all of the wheel pant fasteners were aligned and could be inserted with no issues.
