Brief Description:  Elevator work continues

Work on the elevator continued. Determined that the predrilled #40 pilot holes were slightly misplaced or the right rear skin trailing edge bend was slightly misaligned. The solution was to fit the ribs to the rear skin first. After the ribs were clecoed to the rear skins, the bottom side of the rear skins were clecoed to the predrilled spar pilot holes. This assembly was clamped to the flat table with the top side up. It was observed that the pilot holes on the top of the rear skin along the spar rivet line did not line up with the predrilled pilot holes on the top side of the spar. The misalignment was equal to about half the diameter of the #40 pilot holes. Splitting the misalignment difference between the top and bottom spar rivet line and drilling to the required #30 size resulted in a perfectly flat elevator. Work ended for the evening.
