Brief Description:  Lower Cowl Trim - Firewall Pattern

I am going to use the Mike Melville style cowling that I bought from Featherlite. This cowl extends down further than the origninal cowl, requiring the firewall to come down further to match. I wanted to develop my firewall pattern using the actual lower cowling outline. I spent about an hour pulling the peel ply from the inside of the cowling, pretty fiddly! Then I trimmed the forward edge of the cowling to a scrib line visable on the outside surface of the cowling. I used blue tape on the cowl outer surface to mark the line in a more visable way. I cut near the line with the Fein tool, used a sanding disk to get a little closer and then a permagrip block to true it up to the tape edge marker.

I had a little more energy and went back out to the shop and pulled the peel ply from the top cowl which took about a half hour.
