Brief Description:  Fuselage Trial Assembly

Exciting Day! 2D to 3D!

Finished up the pilot seat back fitting to the longerons. The I re-measured and marked the bulkhead positions on the fuselage sides. Cleared off the table and made up the two support blocks that the fuselage will sit on for assembly. I made these out of an old 2 x4. I cut them about 28 inches long and then trued up two sides on my jointer. I then ran these pieces on edge through my planer. Result nice flat, straight, and paralell pieces of timber. I ran a centerline string down my table as a reference. I cut a small relief in my straight timber pieces to clear the string, then I place the timber per the plans with the reliefs bridging over the string. The timbers were hot melt glued to my work table. I cut up some scraps of cherry I had from another project to use as clamping sticks. These were used with 1/4 inch all thread, large area washers, and nuts to apply clamping pressure at the bulkhead locations. Once all that was prepared I collected all the bulkhead and the firewall and started putting it all together. All went pretty well with nice fits in most spots. It look like my pilots seat back is a little big and will require some trimming to be flush with the top longerons, minor issue! It looks pretty cool! I did not spend a lot of time measuring/squaring as this was just the initial fitting
