Brief Description:  Nutplate Plates - Alodine and Fitting

Alodined the nutplate plates I made yesteday. I then started fitting them to the fuselage sides. I made a few adjustments to the plates that install against the lower curved longeron to make sure they ended up inside the outer edge of the longerons. I also trimmed back the upper angled edge of the forward landing gear attach brackets so that they were inside the edge of the wood. This will allow the seat back to sit flush against the LWX wood. I took about .060 off the edges of teh brackets. I then touched up the alodine on the freshly trimmed surfaces of the brackets and plates. After alodine I installed the sixteen K1000-4 nutplates on all eight plates. I marked the fuselage side foam where the plates will be embedded. I located the plates by lining up the holes in the fuselage and then traced the outline of each plate. I then used my router to remove the foam. I used a Dremel with a cup brush to clean up the bottom of the cutouts and remove the micro from the laminates at the bottom of each area to ensure a good bond with the nutplate plates. I then did a test install of all the bolts to check the bolt engagement with the nutplates. All worked out well with 2 to 3 thread protruding everywhere.
