Brief Description: A First! Priming VS & Rudder Skeleton
After many hours of practising to prime with ordinary enamel paint on steel of roof structure and getting a gap from work over December it was time to prime the first parts.
Preparation included the masking - done already. Then scuffing the surface to be painted. This ruffens up the surface using Scotsbright giving the prime grip place. Once this was done for all the parts it was cleaned with silicon remover which removes all fatty stuff and dirt of the surface. A dirty, fatty and wet surface can make the painting a disaster - I have been told! One white cloth (Name? form auto paints suppliers) is used to apply and a second used to dry/clean up. Prior to priming the surface is wiped with Dr Gersons Blue cloth which removes any dust that may still be around.
Prime is a 2 part prime only in 5 litre available per part - large! Plascon AW255. Small volumes are used at a time - around 50ml to 100ml - mixing becomes a lot of effort for the spray work to be done. Larger prime sessions should be planned at a time. And missing a spot finding out later is uncomfortable.........
It was opted to add 50% Plascon Thinners which worked well. The earlier parctise was a big bonus. The final product appeared well. Drying time is 4hrs though.
