Firrst I ben the elevator skin a little more. The trailing edges had been bulging a bit which the plans say is a no no. Then I built the V braces to hold the elevator for riveting. Later I proceeded to rivet the last bits of the left elevator skeleton together. I also discovered that the trim spar had been built incorrectly (top row dimpled instead of machine countersunk) so that the trim tab hinge can't sit flush like it's supposed to.
