Brief Description: Match-drilled the Spars/ribs/skins
I've built an RV-9 empennage except the elevators. Plus the vertical stabilizer is the same, except for the skin thickness, so I started with the VS.
Assembled the rear spar and doubler with the rudder hinge brackets and matched drilled with a #30 drill bit. The I fluted the VS ribs (minimal fluting needed) and assembled the skeletion and match drilled the ribs and spars. I had to adjust the rib flanges slightly to account for the forward slope of the front VS spar.
Then I cleco'd the VS skin to the skeletion structure and match-drilled the skins with a #41 bit. I used a #41 bit to hopefully get better dimples. I have ordered a #41 reamer bit and this will leave a cleaner hole that will require less deburring (or so I read).
After match drilling all of the 1/8" and 3/32 rivet holes I disassembled the VS.
