To attach and secure the two cowling halves together, Van's uses hinges with a removeable pin. The problem with this is that the pin is usually scured by an unsightly screw in the outside of the forward cowling. Builders have used various methods to do this more cosmetically. I decided to use a stainless steel pin that has a threaded end that screws into a base that is epoxied into the cowling. It is better looking that most other methods and is very secure.
I notched the cowls for the base and tested the fit and position of the hinge pin, and cut the pin to size.
