Brief Description:  Tailwheel Training

I spent the past 10 days in Chandler, Arizona getting my tailwheel endorsement. After trying to get the training here in Washington and repeatedly getting delayed for weather and scheduling conflicts I decided to go where the weather is good and get this finished.

I used Chandler Air Service and highly recommend them. They offer training for all licenses through ATP and have a great selection of tailwheel aircraft including 4 Super Cubs, 2 Great Lakes and 2 Pitts.

Instructor Greg Stafford worked with me and we flew twice daily in the Super Cub where he reacquainted me to small aircraft flying and the unique skills needed to fly a tailwheel airplane. I soloed the Cub after about 11 hours of dual, then made several solo flights to sharpen things up. I also went up in the Great Lakes with Greg for some aerobatic flying. Flying in an open cockpit biplane doing aerobatics is the essence of flying and was a great time.

I will also be doing some transition training in a RV7 before making my first flight. Right now I'm thinking of the first flight in late March or early April.
