Brief Description:  Attaching Forward Fuselage

Worked all Easter weekend taking the forward fuselage apart, deburr and paint. It all went back together but it took me 3 days to do get to where I was. This is the step I like the least, as much as I like building. In the end, it is the result that makes you feel good and the seat belt attachment mod and the seat slider really made me think it was all worthwhile.

Here some of the details: I used 2L and 2R 75F13-7/0 I/B Seat Belt Attachments. Both are installed on top of the gear channel, inboard as suggested in the plans flush on the inside of the arm rest, and OB the same way but flush to the outside skin. I made o ears to attach the seat belt; instead, I drilled out the seat belt buckles to 1/2 inch and used metal bearing on the bolts with three washers. That way the seat belt buckles swivels freely, the bolt is firmly attached to good anchors, and most importantly they attach at the same distance behind the seat at the same height.

The other modification was the installation of a seat rail, a seat mount sold by Cabalas’. I felt the seat base was not solid enough so I added on top of the seat base a solid 1x1x1/8 aluminum angel across and fastened the l-angel onto the L-angel in the cabin side outboard and to a similar vertically installed L-angel on the arm rest side. This really made a solid seat base, and I can hardly wait to try it out in the air.

Just for weight saving, a lighter l-angel might work, but I think I am pretty weight neutral replacing the entire Zenith seat with this rig-up. The next step is to finish the forward fuselage, add the fire wall and then finally install the controles.
