Brief Description:  Builder Profile

Hi,
I've decided to build a Rans S-19 and to keep the required FAA Build Log here.
Since I'm beginning to think of life after retirement, the thought of a nice little airplane to buzz about the country seems like a great idea. I like the concept of the S-19, it should be a low cost airplane to operate, since it's simple with only a 100 hp engine, a fixed pitch prop and gear. The builder can do all the inspections and maintenance and it burns auto gas. It has fantastic visibility under the sliding canopy, and should be fast enough for cross country flights because it's the journey, not just the destination, that's the adventure.
I plan to take my time on the build so I can continue bicycling, backpacking, sailing, kayaking and such.
I first soloed in gliders when I was 16, and have been messing about with airplanes ever since. I'm an aircraft design/stress engineer by profession living in the Seattle area. It will be interesting to work on an airplane project where I can't just use an eraser to fix my mistakes. It will also be interesting to fly the airplane project when completed. They don't let me do that where I work...
