Brief Description: Cast Lead weights for control surfaces
Today I cast lead into my molds for the control mass balance weights. I used lead from fishing weights and since my brother-in-law reloads, he gave me some lead he uses for bullets, and one big chunck that came from a sailboat keel ballast - thanks Dick. I melted it all on a popane camp stove in a old aluminum pot. I used candle wax for flux. On pouring the melted lead into the wood molds the lead boiled quite a bit. Aparently the wood was outgassing a lot. The wood was bone dry, stored inside for years, so I don't think it was water. I will need to melt a llittle extra lead into the resulting buble cavitys if nessary.
