I don't think it's possible to solder a 24 AWG shielded wire harness to the back of a mini-DIN connector. Even if you had the eye sight of a 12 year old, the steady hand of a brain surgeon and the patience of Job, the wire strands are not going to fit in that little hole. I tried to open up the hole with a needle, and cut most of the strands but all I managed to do was mutilate the entire stock of Fry's mini-DIN connectors. I need a method that requires absolutely no skills whatsoever so that even I can do it. -- I then noticed that a female D-sub connector pin fits nicely over the DIN pin. Eureka! It will require some modification... I'll finish up tomorrow.
