Brief Description:  Seal Left Fuel Tank (No Really - Almost Done)

Sealed the inboard and outboard ribs today. I will be glad when this tank and the other is done, I don't like using this sealer. After sealing the inboard rib in place, I then sealed and riveted the tank attachment angle and the reinforcement to the leading edge of the rib. Had some problems as the tank attach angle did not want to fit due to the shop heads of the rivets attaching the skin to the rib. I had to grind the angle down a bit to get it to fit. After that I sealed and tightened the flop tube in place and used the safety wire to attach the flop tube securely to the elbow attachment. Then I measured and cut the vent line, flared it with the fitting in place and then sealed the fitting in place. Finally I sealed the Fuel Level Attachment in place as well. Then I installed the fuel level sender plates and secured the wire to the vent line. I sealed up tight around the screws attaching the wires to the sender plates. Next I sealed the outboard rib and reinforcement in place. Last, but certainly not least, was the cleanup. The photos below and in next entries are after the cleanup, it was a lot more messy before. Then of course comes the worst part, the tool cleanup which takes a long time. Photo #1 shows the inboard rib. Below the attaching angle at the bottom is the fuel feed fitting (hard to see in the picture), next up on the right side with the blue cap is the vent fitting, and just above that is the attachment for the fuel level sender. Note How much sealer I used at the leading edge, according to the plans that is the place most leaks occur - I did the same on the inside of the rib as seen in photo #2 - where you can see the flop tube and the vent line with the trap door still open (dont want it to get stuck in the sealer). Photo #3 shows the outboard fuel level sender plate with the wire running along with the vent line. Few more photos in next entry.
