Brief Description: Primed VS Spar/RIbs; Prepped VS Skin
Painted the Vertical Stablizer spars and ribs. Used a new HVLP paint gun which significantly reduced the overspray. I also had used some duct tape on the paint booth to try and seal all the areas where it had leaked last time - it is much more air tight than before. Finally, I routed the air from the paint booth exhaust fan outside thru a window instead of back into the booth and replaced the filter. I also used a new respirator which worked much better. With all of these changes, I had no overspray out of the booth - making cleanup a lot easier. While the parts were drying on one side, I went ahead and prepped the VS skin by removing the blue protective film from the inside and around the rivet holes on the outside skin. Then after priming the other side of the VS spar and Ribs, I dimpled the VS skin. Glenda came out and dimpled a few holes as well - although she was nervous that she would punch a hole in the wrong place. Now I have all the HS and VS parts ready to assemble and final rivet. I go to work tomorrow thru Saturday, so won't be back in the workshop again until next Sunday - which is good, as my daughter and her boyfriend, Billy, are coming over so Billy can help me rivet and then have dinner. Hope to get most of the rivets that have to be bucked done on Sunday so I can use the Pneumatic Squeezer on Monday to finish both the HS and the VS. We will see. Also need to get the wing kit on order since Van's web site says it is about a 10-12 week lead time.
