Brief Description:  disassembled used corvair engine core

Purchased an 1965, 164 cid, 6 cylinder corvair engine from auto wrecker junk dealer in Brooks, Alberta. He said it turned over by hand??????????

disassembled engine and inspected all parts
the only part that was exceptable for use was the engine block and the engine front cover and rear bellhousing. The # 6 crankshaft rod journal was beyond resurfacing and the piston rod was broke.
Cleaned engine block with pressure washer. Took to local automotive machine shop and had it steam cleaned. Ordered reconditioned parts from Clark's Corvair, spec according to William Wynne's Corvair Flight engine manual. Remove rusted and corroided cylinder head studs. Purchased new studs from Clark's Corvair and replace necessary studs.
NOTE: I neglected to take a picture of the engine before I cleaned it up what a mess. Mice had made a home in the engine intake and block. Water corrioded the rest of the combustion chambers of the heads to a none repairable state .Most of the accessarys on the engine where stripped off. Covering up the carberator holes on the intake maniflods would of presseved this poor old corvair engine from a slow death of water and mice. There was still oil in the bottom of the pan it is amazing the mice would make a nest that close to the oil.
