I decided to take a day of vacation to get a longer holiday weekend. My rudder parts arrived this afternoon and with them were a couple of new LHS elevator skins because I messed up the tab bending on the original ones last week.
This time I made sure I got the bend offsets correct and spent a lot of effort getting everything lined up as well as possible. This time I wrote the bend offsets on the parts to make sure I'd get them right. I found that 1/64 in. is the width of a Sharpie line, so the offset is very small. That's why the lower skin with the 1/32 in. offset has a thicker line. The end result was near perfection.
No problems were encounted today, unless you count a stiff neck and back. Otherwise, the left side elevator went together quickly. I'm always impressed with quality of the fit in the RV-14 kit. It's so easy to get things lined up.
Next step is to get the trim tab hinge match drilled to the elevator, but that'll be done tomorrow.
Upper (top) and lower (bottom) LHS skins closeout tab bends.
No dents or half moons this time.
