Brief Description:  Empennage kit inventory, Part 1

So now that I'm actually working with real parts I'll start recording hours spent. It didn't seem right to count hours not spent actually building the plane. However, if I were to guess I say I expended about 50 to to 60 hours getting ready for this moment.

Vans does a pretty good job packing the securing the contents of the crate. They use a very sticky duct tape to secure the big pieces first and lots and lots of wrapping paper around all the smaller parts. In fact, it's a little too sticky. It was hard to remove it without taking some of the blue protective film off with it.

The best technique was to pull the tape from the interior of the part towards the blue film edge very quickly, but even that gave me mixed results. I know it doesn't hurt anything, but I wanted to keep that film in place as long as possible. I hope Vans goes to a less sticky tape in the future.

Of course, trying to pull the tape off quickly resulted in my opening up my left thumb on a flange that was sticking up near where I was pulling. It's amazing just how much blood flows from such a small cut. Great.

I completed about 80% of the inventory when I cut myself. I guess that's a good place to stop. I'll finish the inventory and organization in the coming days.
