Brief Description:  Finish Riveting the Rear Spar

I received my thin nose yoke from Cleaveland Tools yesterday. You only need to put a rivet set on the plunger side because the opposite side of the yoke is machined flat with no hole. It's meant for tight areas so this makes sense.

The rivets next to the brackets are really tight. I wish the Vans engineers would have designed a bit wider rivet spacing in that area. Since these are all prepunched skins you have to live with it. I could barely get a decent enough position on the rivets. The flat set couldn't cover the entire manufactured head when squeezing so it left a faint smiley on the it. I never thought it was possible to leave a smiley on a flush head but I found a way. I'm going to meet with my EAA Tech Counselor this weekend so I'll get his opinion on the acceptability of this condition. I suspect he'll say it's OK.

The mid rib to rear spar is riveted using LP4 blind rivets. It would be nice to have a pneumatic blind rivet puller, but those are about $150 and there aren't that many rivets. I can't justify spending that much for so few rivets. I'd rather put that money into a nice tungsten bucking bar instead.
