Brief Description:  Airplane factory reopening

So my "couple weeks away from priming" turned into 2 and a half years since the shop has seen some action, but I'm back at it now. I'll detail why in another post. I had to do a through cleaning of the factory (garage) to get ready for this. I also decided to finally take care of the problem with my main workbench that's plagued me since I bought it. As you can see in the first photo, the front board is separated from the other by a half inch. It's also 1/4 in. lower than the plane of the other two boards. The middle board also had a 1/4 in. split down the middle. You can see my attempt at filling it with wood putty back when I first got it. This is just lousy workmanship from a local guy I found who was making and selling them. His website doesn't even exist anymore so good riddance.

I bought a 1/2 in. by 4 ft. by 8 ft. sheet of MDF and had it cut to the table top dimensions. A few screws and some wood putty to cover the screw heads and I had a nice flat and smooth workbench tabletop. I used some wood biscuits as shims to fill the gap between the MDF and the old surface and filled the gap along the front with more wood putty. After drying, some sanding, more filling and a final sand gave me the perfect workbench tabletop I need. No more worrying about little parts falling between the gaps anymore.

I also decided to free up some workbench space and remount my hardware cabinets on the walls along with the fire extinguishers. I still have to clean out the opposite side of the garage and do some minor repairs, but I should be able to start working on the elevators next weekend. Finally!

Very shoddy workmanship on this workbench. I never should have accepted it.
