Brief Description:  Rivet ribs and front spar to skin

Jay came over to buck a whole lot of rivets common to the front spar, stringers and ribs to the skin. There were exactly 400 rivets we set using the rivet gun and bucking bar. The internal nose ribs were attached to the front spar with blind rivets.

The job went smoothly with only two bad rivets in the entire bunch. Those two were not properly seated in the dimple and had a gap under the head. They came out with no problem and were replaced successfully.

We started slowly, checking every rivet tail for proper dimensions with the rivet gauge, but after doing a few dozen we got into a fast rythym where we could both tell right away without the gauge if the shop head was undersized, oversized or just right. Eventually we stopped using the rivet gauge, except at the end where we visually checked every rivet and spot checked a few with the gauge. There was only one rivet out of 400 that required a few extra taps. I was very happy with the results of this session.

After verifying the quality of the rivets and sweeping the interior for FOD, the rear spar was clecoed into position. The interior inspar ribs were secured with blind rivets. Both of us were pretty tired at this points so we quit here. The remaining rivets are all along the rear spar or the edges and are accessable with the pneumatic squeezer. I'll finish them during the week.
