Brief Description: Bookend Part 2
Today I carved the front of the bookend, then prepped and layed up the front.
Carving urethane foam with a butcher knife is tougher than I would have thougt. Next time I have to do it, I'll carve a lot farther away from where I need to end up. A chunk of foam split off near where the top of the picture goes. I blended it as best I could, then filled it with dry micro when I did the layup. I think it would have been better had I made the micro even drier, as the epoxy from the layup softened it a bit. The layup itself went a lot better than the confidence piece, since there were softer radii where the glass needs to conform.
When it was all done, I used the Dritz scissors to trim around the edges, but not right up to the edge, like on the first layup. I have the Fein tool for trimming, I might as well use it instead of risking upsetting the fibers in the layup.
