Brief Description:  Bookend Part 1

I cut out the foam blocks using my gerber tool and a butcher knife. There's got to be a better way!

This type of foam is a PIA. Every time you touch it tiny little bits flake off, until you feel like you've been to the beach. The plans say that shaping and carving this type of foam is one of the real pleasures you will experience in building a Cozy. Hmmm...

Anyway, I got the parts cut out, and the glass ready, and got to work. I added some fast hardener to the pump, as I'd like this part to be ready to go for the second part tomorrow morning, and all slow seems to be too slow, even for this heat. (nearly 90 in the shop, thank god I insulated the garage doors!)

There was a little crud in the hardener tube, so the first cupful of epoxy went to the trash. The second cup of epoxy mixed well, and I divided it up to make the slurry. I used way too much epoxy to make slurry for the confidence layup, and ended up with a cup full of cured micro. I didn't want to waste too much this time, so I went with very little. I scraped it on with the squeegee, and it turned out I needed more. I mixed some more, and got the slurrying done, then added more glass balloons to the mix to make the dry micro for the fillet. I think I needed a lot more micro than I used, because as I added the glass and wet it out the fillet kind of thinned out and disappeared. Not entirely, but I'm a little worried about what I'll find tomorrow.

I did the layup, and added the plastic layer over the top for squeegeeing. I don't see any bubbles in my layups, which makes me think that they're either too light, or too heavy, because I doubt that I'm just that good after only 2 practice parts. I'll check online with the forum and see what people think.

I tried to use the Dritz scissors to trim the layup to the edges of the foam, as I've read about. This probably wasn't the best time to try that one, since this isn't a flat layup like the bulkheads or a BID tape, but it sort of worked. We'll see what happens when it's cured and
