Brief Description:  Landing gear fairings

Let me just say upfront, the fiberglassing is the most difficult and frustrating part of the build process, however, it will no doubt also be the most rewarding getting it right.

Just getting the plane in the air, balanced, and in flight level, was a fairly easy process compared to the stringlining ready for the wheel fairing pants.

I learnt quite a bit doing the first fairing pant and applied it to the second with a lot better process. Not so much better outcome, just faster and more efficient.

Refer also to next post.

The process I would recommend is that once you do have the stringline, clamp the leg fairing to the leg in the correct position. Place the leg pant onto the leg fairing and wheel fairing and align correctly. Drill and cleco at the outer section of the expanded waste fiberglass area to the wheel fairing.

Once completed and happy, run a hot air gun over the sections that are not quite fitting nicely and 'form' to the wheel fairing and leg fairing. This will help the shape better.

Complete the fiberglassing of the additional layers and once complete, reset the pant, mark the cut line you would like and make the drill holes for the actual screws. (BTW: Tinnerman washers are good here for supporting the fiberglass.)

Drill, cut, cleanup and platenut as required. This is an easier method than just trying to fit.
