Brief Description:  Propellor govenor clocking

Over the course of the last week I have been fretting with having to get a new prop governor arm so that the prop govenor cabling woiuld operate effectively.

I was a little worried as the information coming back from Vans was not very clear on how this could be done and no instructions were on line except for 1 person who had taken the govenor apart and re-clocked the entire case.

NOTE: here is what the govenor loks like from inside (i.e. Thanks Chris)

This image shows that the arm rotation pushes on a spring and so any clocking will have no effect on the mechanical operation of the govenor.

This gave me the confidence to take the full govenor cap off the case and reclock the case. Once complete this allowed for the propspeed screw to be more accessible and to allow for the clearence required for the prop arm.

Image 1 shows the original settings associated with the prop governor as it arrived from Vans. With the instructions and the connection hardware provided it was not viable for successful operation.

Images 2 and 3 show the final settings of the govenor. Clearence is good and the standard arm works for clearences. I may still change the arm, depending on the movement of the pitch control on the throttle quadrant, and to set the pass through the hole in the baffling. But at the moment the immediate issue has been alleviated.

Now, how was this accomplished?

I basically removed ALL the screws from the face of the propellor govenor and rotated the whole face approximately 120 degrees anticlockwise.

I reinstalled the screws and installed the hardware.

During this process I also drilled the screws so that I could install lockwire to the govenor. As I have not yet seen any govenor without lockwire I thought that this would be a good mechanical process to continue.
