Brief Description:  Building Comments

The hours kept in this journal reflect the number of hours actually spent at the bench working on part assembly. I did not log the many more (countless) hours spent watching EAA or other videos' speaking with other builders, ordering parts, learning about avionics, desigining a panel or working on paint schemes. I estimate that for every hour I logged in this journal there were, on average, 2 additional hours spent on issues necessary to the build process. During the last 4 months of the build I did not continue to log hours so hours kept during that time are estimated- on the low side.

The most productive bench hours were those I spent in my garage surrounded by family, food a place to relax and those many boxes of parts When the project became too big for the garage I moved it to my hangar which required an additional 40 minutes a day in travel time. Attempting to work out of those 2 places at the same time was a mistake because I often forgot tools or parts in one place when they were required in another. Those mistakes increased time spent on the road and away from the building bench.

At the time of this writing in 2015 the 5 Volume Manual consisted of Sections 1 ( ) through 15 (912iS Engine Installation). While the beginning page of some Sections showed copyright dates in 2013, the vast majority of all Manual pages bore dates during the 3 year period from 1996 to 1999. Section 9: Fuselage Assembly shows a number of pages in 2008 and 2009 but also has several pages dated in 2013.Section 12: Airframe Assembly and Rigging was copyrighted 2013 but all pages except 1 were dated 1998 and 1999. Section 13: Engine Installation (Rotax 912/912S) was copyrighted in 2008 but the majority of the pages were dated in 1999. A number of the drawings in this Section 13 are inconsistent and wrong. Lockwood Aviation told me "some of the pages were mixed up in printing."

2016 Update. In April Lockwood made some revisions to some sections but chose not to take builder's requests that updates be posted to a Lo
