Brief Description:  Install Outer rib compression and safety wire

Pic.1 The left side of my drawing here shows what the manual wants you to do. I found this task almost impossible (a lot of hours) and took me far longer to do than it did to pull the fabric over the structure. Lance has a technique using a coat hangar and .032 wire which he can complete the task "in 5 minutes" but I could not understand his explanation over the phone. I describe an alternative method in the paragraphs below. If you take the time to understand the problem andthe pictures here then you will spend far less time than doing it the way the Manual suggests.

Pic 1. The left side of my drawing attempts to depict the problem with the technique described in the Manual for inserting the .032 wire around the top and bottom ribs AFTER the envelope is tight. The right side of my drawing attempts to illustrate a potential solution.

Fig 1 represents the rib pocket of the wing envelope. Fi 2 depicts the rib inserted into the rib pocket. Note that the rib fills the entire rib pocket and you are required to insert the .032 wire into one side of the rib pocket, go OVER the rib and exit the other side of the rib pocket on the opposite side from which you entered. See Fig 3. The task is complicated because working space is limited, you cannot easily visualize the space and are working mostly by feel. After you thread the .032 wire as described you must then thread the .032 wire through the 1/16" hole your drilled in the fish-mouthed Rib Compression Tube WI-034 and then tighten it sufficiently to bring Rib compression Tube into alignment with top and bottom ribs WI-030 and 031.

The right side of the drawing in Pic 1 shows inserting the (.032 wire or a zip tie) through the Fish-mouthed Rib Compression Tube WI-034 and then the Rib Pocket BEFORE you insert the rib. First you can easily visualize the area to be pierced. Second, the Rib Pocket is not filled with the Rib thus ensuring that the rib pocket can be easily pierced and greatly reduce accidentally penetrating the surface of the wing fabric. Thi
