Brief Description: Horizontal stab - Assembly
|
|
Had a pretty productive day today, I started off making a jig for the horizontal stabiliser to help hold it vertical while I assemble items and to take some of the pressure off the front middle rib while I rivet it in location without the support if the front spar etc.
The Jig was made out of simple MDF and some 90x45mm pine lengths, I then traced the outline of the ribs on a centre line and cut it out with a jigsaw. I then used a foam bathroom mat as padding between the skin and the MDF, it all worked a treat and was happy with the results.
Once that was done I started riveting, I followed the plans through and got to the stage where I had a finished left hand horizontal stab, minus the rear spar.
I had a go at priming the left skin, I was drastically low on paint and ran out, and thinned the paint too much with distilled water, which resulted in a less than average finish. So I decided to bite the bullet, order some more paint and wait the week or two it will take to get here. Just means I will have to move on with the rudder and elevators while I wait, which is most frustrating.
