Brief Description:  Rear HS Stab spar + Prime VS components

Today was the first big day in a long time, with plenty of jobs done and a lot to be shown for the work.

Items Completed include:

Rounded all corners of HS601PP – this included the removal and rounding of corners that lay up to the corner of the spar. Was actually very time consuming.

Sanded HS6011PP to a dull finish, I removed all the milling marks as well as other marks that came from the manufacturing process. I used standard 400 grit paper with a some water to sand it back, it ended up coming back really nice. I also broke the edges with a vixen file and went over all corners with a bit of sandpaper and finished up with the scotch-brite wheel to get rid of all marks from filing and get a mirror finish, Test fitted and was happy with how the reinforcement pieced fit in the spar channel

Match Drilled rear horizontal spars to the reinforcements, Also located where the middle ribs attach and drilled out as per the plans.

I match drilled the hinge brackets, and also match drilled the centre hinge brackets as per the plans, along with the bearing.

I took the time to prime the VS skin on the inside, the remaining ribs for the VS and the centre bearing for the HS. I followed the instructions of the primer to the letter and managed to achieve a good result. Outside of the spray booth it was 35 degrees and 72% humidity, inside was 28.5 degrees and 50% humidity, makes a big difference to the quality of the prime.

After the primer dried, I assembled the rear HS centre bearing pivot and rivetted, The rivets looked shorth, but the plans explicitly said that the rivet was the correct length. I guess the tension and geometry of the bolt, pivot a forces from flight are all in shear, and that the centre bearing is actually captivated by the sandwich of the two brackets, and the friction (shear/compress) between the two brackets is what takes up all the load!
