Managed to get a bit more elbow grease in this weekend, I mainly focused on the drill jig to ensure I get nice 84 degree holes, minimising the risk of ovaling the holes as well. I’m lucky enough to have a milling machine and a lathe, so I was able to make up this little jig to make the job a bit easier. I hope the rest of vans kits have a requirement to drill 84 degree holes!
I took a bit of 1”x1” stock, squared it off and cut it down to 2” long, I deburred the whole structure and then drilled the #40 drill at 84 degrees. Perhaps too much precision?
