Brief Description:  About the builder

Hi there

I won't bore you with a bunch of stuff about myself.
My name is Tim White, and I'm from Fleetwood PA.
Here's a pic of me working on my other "hobby" building custom motorcycles.

I'm building the Zenith Zodiac 601XL. I'm not into all the horiscope mumbo jumbo, but being that the plane model is the Zodiac, and I am a scorpio...I decided to call the project the " Zodiac 601 scorpion".

The all metal construction and lack of glue ,fabric and doping are what really drew my attention to this plane. All the articles I've read seem to come to the same conclusion that this is an easy(or easier )to afford, easy to build, safe to fly, and fun aircraft! After all....finishing it, and actually flying it are what it's all about. My goal is to get this plane up and flying for under $20,000. While a lot of you might be saying "yea....good luck buddy" with some carful planning, scrounging, and the right powerplant I think it is possible.

The powerplant I plan to use is a Chevy Corvair conversion. ( yes, the little P.O.S. car that Ralph Nader had a problem with). Before any of you call me nuts....check out www.flycorvair.com. The corvair motor is actually the perfect motor for any 90 to 120 HP project. It's an air cooled, horizonaly opposed 6 Cyl that needs no re-drive or gearbox. It's installed weight is somewhere in the 240 Lb area, and parts can be picked up at the local auto store. There are some changes, and parts ,that are specific to the aircraft conversion, so check out the web site for more info.(actually all the info you'll need and more) It's a great site even if your using a different engine.
