Brief Description: Fit fuel tank access cover ring
Aaahhh. Finally able to actually rivet something. 12 K1000-08 anchor nuts onto the tank access cover ring and onto the tank rib. Sweet. The tank ring gets countersunk, the tank rib gets dimpled and you use AN426 AD3-4 flush rivets to secure the ring onto the rib as well as the anchor nuts. Drilled the anchor nut holes to #19, deburred and riveted the assembly together. A couple rivet holes were awkwardly tight and I hand twisted with a #40 drill bit to more accurately align the holes. That soled the problem. 24 rivets and it was finished. Put a screw into each anchor nut to be sure I was riveting up good anchor nuts. Fitted reinforcing plates to the tops of the innermost and outermost tank ribs too. The inboard rib gets a heavy duty angle riveted to the rib as well for mounting the tank to the fuselage later. That big angle fit too close to a couple of the rib flange rivet holes so I had to trim the angle slightly to allow for the bucked rivet head next to the big angle when I rivet the tank skins to the ribs. I will also have to remember to NOT rivet this angle onto the rib web until I have riveted the skin to the rib first.
1st rivet set finally. Felt good.
Almost finished with the hand squeezerr task.
No mistakes. All rivets meet standards. I am happy.
