Brief Description:  Thank you Mike Smith - Henderson NV RV-7A

My son lives in the same neighborhood as another RV builder and without letting me know, he arranged for me to meet builder, instructor, heck of a great pilot and person Mike Smith at Mike's hangar in Boulder City NV. I think we spent two or three hours there, including a half hour dual time. Mike introduced me to his aircraft and in no time we were airborne. I am sure other new RVers know the feeling and its hard to describe except to say there were zero seconds where I was not speechless. Mike gave me a very thorough run down of his systems and procedures. I actually flew it through some maneuvers ( aileron rolls, cloverleaves, etc). I could not get over how quickly we accelerated on the ground and in the air. It was so stable and I quickly learned how little force you need on the ''stick''. Wow!! We left the practice area and did a low approach for my son to video and when I was back on the ground, my son had second thoughts about letting go of the RV-6A project, especially after he saw us jink up at the end of the low approach. It's not often you get to see sooo much of the airplane profile in a climb. I am sure he was thinking back to his T-38 days when on final he was able to do the same after requesting ''close'' , or something like that.
Mike Smith spent much personal time with me talking about the airplane, his flying history, his aerobatics and formation flying. I was like a sponge. But, all good things had to come to an end and we left to pack up the RV-6A kit.
