Vans Nav/Strobe inserts are made to fit nicely once you find the exact position where that nice actually lives. Instructions had them positioned more forward, but after moving them all over, on both tips, here's where they fit perfectly around the entire circumference. Temporarily tape them for tracing the outer circumference. Then, free hand another line 1/8 inch inside the original outline. Thats the cut line. Thats where the angle of the fiberglass almost exactly matched on the insert and the wingtip. Dremel cut the inner line. Then with a hand file, bevel the wingtip from the original line to the cut, all the way around. You basically would make the original line disappear as you bevel file it away.
Same on the underside of the insert's outer edge. Bevel file it too, though not as much as the wingtip. Eventually as you press it in place and feel around, you will see it is a nearly perfect bevel fit. When ready, I used aluminum tape and taped the insert in place. That aluminum tape is strong and holds very well while you lay some glass strips on the inside. I used 2 inch wide glass and will lay up two layers inside.
